Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adam Barton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Junior!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Junior keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Barton moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Junior slips a jab and a cross from Barton.
Junior shoots and misses

and Barton counters by moving into the clinch.

Barton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Junior is defended easily by Barton.
Nice takedown defense from Barton. No joy for Junior on that attempt.
Adam Barton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Junior.
Barton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Junior pinned against the cage. Junior gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Barton is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Junior is defending well.

Junior jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Barton walks away with a smile on his face. Junior gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Barton throws a head kick but Junior moves out of range.

Barton is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Junior wants to sweep but no luck.
Junior really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Barton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barton is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Barton is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Barton gets to his feet - Junior follows without any prompting.
Barton fails with the takedown.
Junior shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Barton shoots in and bounces Junior off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Junior looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Barton keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Junior's head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Junior is looking for a triangle but Barton pushes his legs off easily.

Paulo Junior seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Barton throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Junior.
Junior fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Barton manages to avoid it.
Barton shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Junior but Junior pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Junior tries to pull guard but Barton holds him up against the cage and eventually Junior drops back down to his feet.

Junior drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Barton manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Junior has Barton in his guard.
Barton controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Barton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Barton slaps away a takedown attempt from Junior, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Barton gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Barton pulls Junior into guard.
Junior trying to control but Barton is working from the bottom.
Barton manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Junior wants to hold on but Barton pushes him away.

Barton lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Adam Barton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Barton lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Barton has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Barton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Barton cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Barton postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Junior looks a forlorn figure.

Junior is bucking up trying to escape but Barton cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Barton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Junior for as long as he can get away with.
Barton is landing with some decent strikes but Junior is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
