PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lance McBruce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gina Carano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gina Carano was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lance McBruce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gina Carano!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A big head kick from Carano and McBruce is sent sprawling to the canvas!


McBruce is rocked!

Carano stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Oh McBruce is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Carano tries to close the distance and clinch but McBruce swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Carano misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
McBruce seems to have got his legs back now.

McBruce misses with a jab, cross combination.
McBruce moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Gina Carano has been cut.
Carano keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
McBruce throws a right and a left that Carano avoids nicely.
McBruce just misses with a punch to the body.

McBruce scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Carano can do anything to dispel that myth.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carano is looking to regain half guard here but McBruce keeps moving and retains side control.
Carano is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

McBruce is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Carano is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McBruce with a couple of short strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poor strikes thrown by McBruce there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
McBruce has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McBruce wants to control the pace but Carano is squirming around nicely.

McBruce goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Carano is on top in guard.
Carano controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now McBruce is on top in guard.
McBruce trying to control but Carano is working from the bottom.
Carano is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst McBruce is controlling him.
McBruce is looking to work some ground and pound but Carano has wrist control.
McBruce trying to control the position from guard on top but Carano is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McBruce won't allow Carano to get back to his feet.

McBruce drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and McBruce jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Carano wants to stand and escape but McBruce is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
McBruce scores with a sloppy right hand. Carano should have avoided that one.
McBruce shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carano pinned against the cage. Carano gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Gina Carano is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A head kick by McBruce misses
and Carano counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
McBruce shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carano but Carano pushes him off and we're back to square one.
McBruce is breathing heavily.

Carano rushes McBruce and presses him up against the cage.
Carano tries to stall but McBruce uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
McBruce on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Carano breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Carano tries to clinch up but McBruce circles away and keeps his distance.

McBruce blocks a head kick by Carano.
McBruce shoots in and drives through. Carano sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lance McBruce. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McBruce shoots in and bounces Carano off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McBruce wants to control from the top but Carano keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lance McBruce will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Gina Carano's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Carano throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
McBruce lands a nice looking body shot.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McBruce shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carano as he jumps to the side.
McBruce fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Carano is out of range.
McBruce looks to score with a jab to the body but Carano is just out of range.
Carano is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Carano looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Carano throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
McBruce looks to throw the jab but Carano is out of range.
Carano tries to close the distance and clinch up but McBruce swats him away and circles back towards the center.
McBruce misses with a body shot.
Carano wants to clinch.
Carano wants to clinch up but McBruce keeps it at a distance.
McBruce doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Carano counters with a good low kick that McBruce was not able to check.

Carano moves into the clinch successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Gina Carano.
I think Carano has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
