PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jeremy Renner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Magnus Landeskog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Renner comes to the cage accompanied by God Particle. Landeskog has chosen Warm Shadow - Fink as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeremy Renner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Magnus Landeskog!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A cross from Renner lands.

Landeskog has closed the distance and engaged Renner in a clinch.
Landeskog tries for a takedown but Renner manages to get underhooks.
Landeskog tries to score a body lock takedown but Renner shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Landeskog jumps guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Landeskog has momentary wrist control but Renner slips an elbow through the middle.
Landeskog looking to hit a scissor sweep but Renner is one step ahead there.
Renner works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Renner throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Landeskog gets full guard.
Landeskog manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Renner manages to get himself to full guard.
Landeskog stops Renner from standing up.
Renner trying to control the position.
Renner pulls Landeskog in close to his closed guard and prevents Landeskog from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Landeskog throwing strikes from guard but Renner blocks nicely.
Landeskog lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Landeskog postures up in Renner's guard and throws a big left but Renner blocks it.
Renner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Landeskog throws a big elbow that misses.
Landeskog has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Landeskog won't allow Renner to get back to his feet.

Renner looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Renner throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Landeskog throws a big right hand that misses.
Landeskog postures up and lands a big shot to Renner's brow.
Landeskog throws an elbow that misses. Renner uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Landeskog's guard. Nice move by Renner!

Landeskog has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Renner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Renner trying to control but Landeskog is working from the bottom.

Landeskog working for submissions but it's allowed Renner to get to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Landeskog is looking to improve his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Renner lands a nice short elbow.
Renner working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Renner wants to control but Landeskog is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Renner lands with a punch from half guard.
Renner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Landeskog does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Landeskog wants to get back to full guard.
Renner winds up and cracks Landeskog with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ground and pound from Renner.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Landeskog is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Renner jumps into side control!
Renner lands an elbow.
Landeskog is looking for a sweep.
Renner working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Renner trying to control the position but Landeskog is working away.
Renner is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Landeskog is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Renner working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Landeskog sneaks back into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeremy Renner dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Renner connects with the punch.
Renner throws the left hand but Landeskog avoids the punch easily.
Renner looks to land a combination but Landeskog avoids it well.
A punch combination from Renner misses.
Landeskog scores with a nice head shot.
Landeskog tries to clinch up.
Landeskog looks for a takedown but Renner sprawls well.
Landeskog tries to close the distance and clinch but Renner swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fighters circling - Landeskog throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Landeskog fails in his attempt to clinch.

Landeskog drives through with a takedown into Renner's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Landeskog accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Landeskog postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Landeskog throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Renner works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Landeskog trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Landeskog drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Renner manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Landeskog has Renner in his guard.
Renner trying to control the position from guard on top but Landeskog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Landeskog escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Renner gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Renner is looking to work some ground and pound but Landeskog has wrist control.

Landeskog working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Renner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Renner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Renner connects with a couple of short punches.

Renner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Landeskog has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Renner has managed to get both his arms back between Landeskog's legs - danger averted.

Renner is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Landeskog has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Renner is looking to defend but Landeskog has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Renner! Landeskog pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Renner taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Magnus Landeskog!
Post fight, Magnus Landeskog stared into the camera and said 'Montana, I'm coming for you. We have unfinished business to settle as you were awarded a non sense decision in our last fight. You'll be my passport for the title fight and time it will be impossible for anyone to give you that victory. I'm coming for that belt and no one's stopping me.'.
