PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sususuma Sin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sota Herra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sin comes to the cage accompanied by The Pirate Shanty. Sususuma Sin has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sususuma Sin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sota Herra!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Herra looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
We've been informed that Herra has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Sin throws a hook but Herra blocks it.
Sin tests Herra's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Herra looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Sin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Sin avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
A punch combination from Sin misses.
Herra throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sin's waist but Sin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Herra off to one side.
A slow jab from Sin misses its intended target.
Herra just misses with a punch to the body.
Sin on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Herra. Herra obviously looking to wear him down.
Herra throws a leg kick which misses Sin's front leg but catches the back leg as Sin tries to avoid it.

Herra feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Herra seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Herra distracts Sin with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Herra not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sota Herra.
Sin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Herra.
Sususuma Sin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sota Herra.

Herra shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Herra was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Sin is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Sin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sin tries to get out of the position.

Herra happy to just control the position for now.
Herra cracks Sin with a big right hand but Sin just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sin can't do much from the bottom here.

Herra landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Sin gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Sin definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Sin in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Herra controlling the position easily from mount.
Herra connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
A nice elbow there by Herra.
Herra takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Herra postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sin looks a forlorn figure.
Sin is in a horrible position here. Herra smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Herra takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Herra cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sota Herra dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Herra shoots in and bounces Sin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Sin is pulling down on Herra's head to control his posture.
Herra is stalling in the full guard.
Sota Herra has got the better of the ground game so far.
Herra lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Herra is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sin trying to keep a closed guard but Herra is proving a slippery customer.
Sin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Herra on the ground.

Sususuma Sin has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Herra on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Herra throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Herra takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Herra throws a series of punches but Sin moves out of range.
Sususuma Sin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A slow jab from Sin misses its intended target.
Sin throws a shot from downtown. Herra moves away and avoids it.
Sin misses with the combination.
Some wild striking there from Herra.

Herra drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Herra sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sin is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Sin defending against the ground and pound.
Herra remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Herra lands a nice forearm strike.
Herra has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Herra content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Herra creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Herra is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Sin's shoulder. That is not cool.
Sin is trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Herra happy to just control the position for now.
Let's hope that Herra has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sota Herra showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Sin throws an overhand right that lands on Herra's shoulder, as Herra tries to avoid the shot.
Herra fails in his attempt to clinch.
Herra tries to clinch but Sin is having none of it.
Sin looks to land a left hand but Herra moved out of range nicely.
Herra shoots in but Sin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sin keeps the fight on the outside.
Herra steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sin.
Sin jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Herra moves away from the strike by Sin.
Herra swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Herra takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Herra shoots for a double leg takedown but Sin sprawls well. He's pushed Herra's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Decent striking displayed by Sin there.
Herra stalks Sin and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sin's face. Sin staggers backwards, shaken.
A lazy left from Sin finds it's target.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Herra uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sin.
Sususuma Sin is winning the standup battle so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sin looks to score with a jab to the body but Herra is just out of range.
Sin throws the left hand but Herra avoids the punch easily.
No joy there for Herra, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Herra misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sin throws the left hand but Herra avoids the punch easily.
Herra uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sin.
Herra moves away from the strike by Sin.
Sin is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Herra.
Sin lands a jab to the head.
Herra lands a nice hook to Sin's body. Sin takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Sin misses with a straight right.
Nice uppercut lands for Sin. That snapped Herra's head back.
Herra takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Herra throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Herra takes a swing at Sin's ribcage but misses.
Sususuma Sin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Herra closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sin to the mat! Sin manages to get full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Herra controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sota Herra was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Herra looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Herra working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Sota Herra is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Herra not doing much here.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sota Herra.

Herra manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sin on his heels. He'll look to pass Sin's guard now, I'm sure.
Herra's corner is telling him to maintain position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sota Herra comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Herra winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
