The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chong misses with a series of wild punches.
Chong tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Chong throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
An inside leg kick lands from Chong.

Chong shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Merritt counters with a series of strikes. Chong will be more careful next time no doubt.

Chong instigates a clinch.
Chong lands a hook that snaps the head of Merritt backwards.
Merritt is trying to break the clinch but Chong has him pressed against the cage.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Chong obliges.
Merritt tries to pull guard but Chong won't allow it.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Merritt would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Merritt won't allow Chong to get back to his feet.

Chong is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Winston Chong hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Merritt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Chong, pushing him back against the cage.
Merritt blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Merritt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Merritt is trying to force a seperation but Chong has the dominant position.

Merritt is breathing heavily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like Carter Merritt has been cut.

Chong misses with a takedown attempt - Merritt sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Chong shoots in for a double leg but Merritt sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Carter Merritt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Winston Chong.
Merritt sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Chong clinches with his opponent.
Merritt takes an elbow to the temple.
Merritt is looking to break free of the clinch but Chong has double underhooks.

Chong's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Chong throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Chong, right into the meat.
Horrible takedown by Chong or perhaps it was just good defense by Merritt which made him look bad.
Chong lands with a kick to the temple. Merritt shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
No joy there for Chong, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Chong looks for the body kick but Merritt saw that one coming.

Chong rushes Merritt and presses him up against the cage.

Merritt is trying to break free.
Chong lands an elbow inside that Merritt shrugs off.
Merritt wants to break free but Chong has control.

Chong pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Merritt circles away from the clinch attempt.
Chong keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Chong throws a head kick but Merritt moves out of range.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Merritt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Chong pinned against the cage. Chong gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Chong creates some distance and fires off a vicious elbow that drops Merritt! He pounces and finishes the fight with more strikes! Nice KO for Chong.
