PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sailo Damtea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anatoliy Lapikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damtea's entrance music is Ne Compare Pas (GSP Entrance Song). A fine choice. Lapikov has chosen AC/DC - Hells Bells as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Anatoliy Lapikov was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sailo Damtea!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anatoliy Lapikov!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lapikov is looking to chop away at Damtea's legs.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Damtea misses with a straight left.
Damtea with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Lapikov to score with a decent uppercut.
Lapikov moves away from the strike by Damtea.

Lapikov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Damtea was covering up waiting for the punch and Lapikov finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Lapikov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Lapikov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Damtea has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lapikov has managed to get both his arms back between Damtea's legs - danger averted.

Lapikov keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Damtea's head.

Damtea looking for a guillotine here but Lapikov defends easily.
Damtea has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Lapikov works over Damtea with some ground and pound from guard.

Damtea has his foot on Lapikov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lapikov works his way back into a safe position though.
Damtea is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Lapikov controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Damtea is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Lapikov tries to roll over but Damtea keeps him under control.
Lapikov is concentrating on defense, preventing Damtea from advancing position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Lapikov throws a big shot that misses.
Lapikov moves out of range of the strikes.
We've been informed that Lapikov has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Lapikov catches Damtea with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Damtea enables Lapikov to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Damtea manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Damtea has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lapikov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Damtea wants to sweep here but Lapikov controlling him for the moment.

Damtea has control of Lapikov's left arm, preventing Lapikov from doing any damage.
Lapikov lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Damtea tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lapikov connects with a couple of short punches.
Lapikov trying to control the position from guard on top but Damtea is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Damtea working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lapikov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lapikov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Damtea is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lapikov is working Damtea over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Lapikov advances position into side control!
Lapikov in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Damtea is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Lapikov is controlling him well.
Lapikov works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Damtea is trying to improve his position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Damtea clinches with his opponent.
Damtea seems to have got his legs back now.
Damtea lands a left hand that snaps the head of Lapikov backwards.
Damtea can't break the clinch.
Damtea misses with a short punch on the inside.
Lapikov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Damtea avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Damtea's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sloppy strikes from Lapikov. Those never looked like landing.
Damtea lands a head kick. Lapikov smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Anatoliy Lapikov has been cut.
Lapikov uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Damtea.
Damtea fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Damtea throws a hook but Lapikov blocks it.
Damtea misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Lapikov cracks Damtea with an uppercut from hell and Damtea crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Lapikov's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Damtea holds on and takes a little breather.
Lapikov gets to his feet and stands over Damtea, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Damtea felt that one! Lapikov unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Damtea from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Anatoliy Lapikov!
