PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Harver Danjah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erik Veloso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Veloso has chosen Bonde da Oskley - Cachorrinho as his entrance music. Erik Veloso has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Harver Danjah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Erik Veloso!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Danjah drives through with a takedown into guard.
Veloso keeping full guard, as Danjah tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Veloso keeping moving, preventing Danjah from controlling successfully.
Danjah is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Veloso is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Danjah trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Veloso wants to sweep here but Danjah controlling him for the moment.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Danjah's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Danjah is trying to stick to Veloso's back but Veloso is turning into Danjah. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Danjah's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Veloso.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Danjah working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Veloso doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Veloso manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Danjah is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Danjah might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Veloso is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Danjah defends it well.

Veloso postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Danjah is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Veloso, into his guard.

Danjah changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Veloso looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Veloso is not content to let Danjah control the position.
Danjah works to advance to full mount. Veloso defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Danjah seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Veloso works his way to full guard. Good work.

Veloso has his foot on Danjah's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Danjah works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Danjah is taking a breather. Veloso says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Danjah tries to pass the half guard into mount. Veloso knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Danjah wants to get up but he can't break Veloso's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Veloso looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Veloso had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Danjah is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Veloso Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Danjah's back instead.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Danjah rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Danjah wants to improve his position but Veloso is controlling well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Veloso has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Danjah can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Danjah, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
