PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcelio Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pound Mcgee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mcgee is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcelio Garcia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pound Mcgee!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia shoots in for a takedown but Mcgee shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Garcia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mcgee tries to avoid it but Garcia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mcgee to the ground. Mcgee escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Garcia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcelio Garcia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Garcia tries for a takedown but Mcgee circles away easily
and Mcgee counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Mcgee lands with an overhand left.
Garcia shoots in looking for a takedown. Mcgee tries to sprawl out of it but Garcia keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mcgee manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mcgee wants to clinch up but Garcia keeps it at a distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Garcia is defended easily by Mcgee.

Mcgee slaps away a takedown attempt from Garcia, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mcgee tries to clinch there but Garcia circles away.
A combination from Mcgee does no damage.
Garcia tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Garcia shoots in but no luck this time.
No luck for Garcia with that takedown attempt.
Garcia shoots in for a double leg but Mcgee sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Mcgee throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Garcia.

Mcgee fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Garcia sprawls well initially but Mcgee persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Well, if Mcgee is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mcgee throws a nice outside leg kick.
Garcia fails with the takedown.
Mcgee keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Mcgee gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mcgee breaks from the clinch.
Garcia tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mcgee manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Garcia fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mcgee lands with a kick to the ribs.

Mcgee decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Garcia works his way to full guard. Good work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mcgee avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mcgee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Garcia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Garcia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pound Mcgee dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Garcia shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Garcia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcgee keeps working.
Mcgee wants to get back to his feet.

Garcia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Mcgee trying to control from the bottom.
Garcia looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mcgee felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Garcia seems to be working for a kimura but Mcgee defends the submission attempt.
Garcia passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mcgee!
Garcia wants to control the pace but Mcgee is squirming around nicely.

Mcgee is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Mcgee defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Garcia.
We've been hearing that Garcia has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Garcia moves to the back.
Marcelio Garcia overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Garcia's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Garcia is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Mcgee won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Garcia off his unconscious opponent!
