The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes gets the takedown into side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Lebene is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hughes asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Lebene is looking to regain half guard here but Hughes keeps moving and retains side control.

Lebene wants to improve his position but Hughes is controlling well.
Hughes has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Hughes takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Hughes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Hughes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lebene keeps working.
Hughes lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Hughes seems to be working for a kimura but Lebene defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hughes wants to free his trapped foot but Lebene is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Hughes trying to control the position from guard on top but Lebene is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lebene isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hughes stacks Lebene on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hughes!
Lebene is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hughes's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Lebene is looking for a sweep. Hughes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hughes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hughes throws a hook but Lebene blocks it.
Lebene throws a combination. Hughes tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Lebene looks to land a left hand but Hughes moved out of range nicely.
Lebene misses with an uppercut.

Hughes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lebene looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Lebene is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hughes wants to control but Lebene is keeping him busy.
Hughes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lebene knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Lebene makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lebene.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hughes is working Lebene over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Hughes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lebene has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hughes has managed to get both his arms back between Lebene's legs - danger averted.

Hughes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hughes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
