Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Merik Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pluto Palhares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunt comes to the cage accompanied by Comfortably Numb. Palhares has chosen TOQUINHO as his entrance music. Pluto Palhares has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Merik Hunt!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pluto Palhares!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palhares throws a head kick but Hunt moves out of range.
Hunt jabs at Palhares's body.
Palhares fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hunt avoids it really well and circles away.
Hunt bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Palhares's head backwards.
Palhares is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hunt.
Palhares tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hunt was well out of range. Poor timing from Palhares.

Hunt closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ground and pound from Hunt seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hunt tries to score with some ground and pound. Palhares controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That kick from Palhares tenderised Hunt's leg. Hunt is trying to keep his angry face on.
Hunt takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Palhares on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Hunt misses with a looping left.
Hunt throws a hook to the side of Palhares's head but Palhares sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nice takedown defense from Palhares. No joy for Hunt on that attempt.
Hunt connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Palhares momentarily.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Merik Hunt.
