Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gaston Fanta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kostas Papadakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gaston Fanta could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Kostas Papadakis's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gaston Fanta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kostas Papadakis!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Santiago Holmes and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Papadakis missing with a left hand there. Fanta was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Papadakis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fanta moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Fanta gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Papadakis to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Papadakis slips nicely into half guard.
Fanta wants to control but Papadakis is keeping busy.

Papadakis seems to be looking for submissions.

Papadakis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fanta is just riding it out for now. Papadakis eventually gives up the hold.
Papadakis has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Clean and Green. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Fanta is refusing to be controlled, as Papadakis sits in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Papadakis works his foot free and advances to mount.

Papadakis is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Fanta is surviving well by controlling Papadakis's body position as best he can.

Papadakis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Fanta to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Fanta shrugs it off.

Papadakis is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Fanta can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Papadakis throws a hook to the side of Fanta's head but Fanta sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Papadakis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Papadakis is looking to take a break and control but Fanta is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kostas Papadakis.

and Fanta holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Papadakis has clasped his hands together around Fanta's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Papadakis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fanta is looking to escape.

Kostas Papadakis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Papadakis closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fanta quickly recovers to half guard.

Papadakis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fanta doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Papadakis.
Papadakis wants to take a breather but Fanta is having none of it.

Papadakis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fanta does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kostas Papadakis was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Papadakis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Papadakis showed some decent athleticism there.

Papadakis thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Papadakis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fanta doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Papadakis.

Fanta holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fanta is staying active underneath Papadakis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kostas Papadakis was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Papadakis dives in and scores a takedown into Fanta's guard.

Papadakis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fanta swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kostas Papadakis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Papadakis winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
