Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Matthew McConnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hung Nguyen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nguyen misses with an uppercut. McConnell saw that one coming.
Nguyen throws the left hand but McConnell avoids the punch easily.
McConnell looks for a takedown but Nguyen sprawls well.

McConnell gets a clinch.
Nguyen has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Nguyen wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Nguyen is trying to break the clinch but McConnell has him pressed against the cage.

McConnell shoots in and bounces Nguyen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

McConnell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nguyen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McConnell passes Nguyen's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nguyen stalks McConnell and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into McConnell's face. McConnell staggers backwards, shaken.
McConnell walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Nguyen misses with an uppercut. McConnell saw that one coming.
Nguyen scores with a three punch combo!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McConnell swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Nguyen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
McConnell throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Nguyen stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Nguyen looks winded!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew McConnell dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

McConnell goes for a double leg but Nguyen avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nguyen continues to drive forward.
Nguyen is trying to break the clinch but McConnell is controlling him.

Nguyen has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nguyen wants to stand and escape but instead McConnell has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

McConnell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nguyen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McConnell wants to control from the top but Nguyen keeps moving.

McConnell throws an elbow that misses. Nguyen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McConnell's guard. Nice move by Nguyen!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Hung Nguyen hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

No joy there for Nguyen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
McConnell slips under a jab.
Nguyen looks to throw the jab but McConnell is out of range.
Nguyen throws a looping overhand right but McConnell ducks down to avoid it.

McConnell drops Nguyen with a beautiful combination! Nguyen stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - McConnell is looking for the KO!

It looks like Hung Nguyen has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McConnell looks to land a combination but Nguyen avoids it well.
Nguyen might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Nguyen throws a jab when McConnell was well out of range.
BOOM! McConnell lands a beautiful left hook that drops Nguyen. Nguyen tries to recover but McConnell is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Nguyen lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
