PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Randy Sosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rau Wolfgang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Rau Wolfgang was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Randy Sosa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rau Wolfgang!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wolfgang moves into range and clinches up with Sosa.
Wolfgang lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Randy Sosa has been cut.

Sosa successfully pulls guard.
Wolfgang trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Wolfgang trying to control but Sosa is working from the bottom.
Sosa is looking to stand up but Wolfgang isn't so interested in that idea.
Sosa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Sosa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wolfgang is one step ahead there.
Wolfgang must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Rau Wolfgang wasn't active enough on the ground.
Sosa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wolfgang sprawls well. Wolfgang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sosa gets slowly back to his feet.

Wolfgang drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Wolfgang darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Wolfgang is looking to take a break and control but Sosa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wolfgang takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rau Wolfgang was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Sosa wants to clinch but Wolfgang slips to the side

and Wolfgang counters by moving into the clinch.

Wolfgang has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sosa is trying to keep an underhook but Wolfgang manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Sosa holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sosa tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wolfgang manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Wolfgang shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sosa is trying to defend but Wolfgang finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sosa is looking to improve his position.
Wolfgang is pressing down on Sosa's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sosa is holding on for now.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Sosa gets tackled into the cage by Wolfgang. Wolfgang maintains the clinch.
Wolfgang prevents Sosa from breaking the clinch.

Sosa gets control of Wolfgang's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sosa will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Sosa has Wolfgang pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Wolfgang manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Sosa drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Wolfgang ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Wolfgang no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Wolfgang shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wolfgang was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wolfgang won't allow Sosa to get back to his feet.
Sosa has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Sosa wants to stand and escape but Wolfgang is having none of it.
Randy Sosa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rau Wolfgang is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sosa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wolfgang doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wolfgang manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well Wolfgang has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
