Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Omer Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tensai Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Omer Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tensai Riggs!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Reed Andrews and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendez tries to sprawl but Riggs drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Mendez is breathing heavily.
Riggs tries to stand and escape but Mendez is controlling the position.
Riggs is controlling the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Tensai Riggs.

Riggs scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Riggs working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Riggs is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Mendez taking some punishment here, with Riggs in his half guard.
Riggs looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Riggs controlling the action here.
Let's hope that Riggs has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Mendez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tensai Riggs was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Riggs shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Riggs was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The referee asks Riggs politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Riggs prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tensai Riggs hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Riggs gets a double leg takedown into Mendez's guard.
Riggs works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Riggs is taking a breather. Mendez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Tensai Riggs.

Riggs moves into the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Riggs manages to break the clinch.

Mendez tries to sprawl but Riggs drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tensai Riggs dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Omer Mendez's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Riggs clinches up with Mendez and pushes him back against the cage.

Riggs pulls guard effortlessly.
Riggs wants to get back to his feet but Mendez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mendez is fighting to break Riggs's control of his arms but Riggs is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Mendez trying to stand up but can't free himself from Riggs's guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Tensai Riggs.

Riggs forces Mendez back against the cage and clinches.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Riggs wants the takedown. Mendez is fighting it off but Riggs persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mendez's guard against the cage.
Riggs stands up over Mendez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.


Mendez is rocked!
Riggs passes into half guard.
Oh Mendez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Riggs works his way into side control.

Riggs is working to tighten his grip on Mendez's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Mendez has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Riggs is really squeezing tight and eventually Mendez passes out! Riggs breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Tensai Riggs!
