With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fidel Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez lands a two punch combo.
Mendez throws an overhand right that lands on Mcdermott's shoulder, as Mcdermott tries to avoid the shot.
Mendez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
We've been hearing reports that Mcdermott has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Mendez misses with a takedown
and Mendez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Mcdermott closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mendez did well to prevent Mcdermott getting side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Mcdermott looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mcdermott takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Mendez is trying to maintain the position but Mcdermott is very close to passing his half guard.
Mendez pushes Mcdermott off looking to stand but Mcdermott dives back in and keeps control.
