PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mach II (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santos Goncalves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think II might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Ace of Spades. Santos Goncalves is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mach II!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Santos Goncalves!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
II changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
II keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
II works Goncalves's body with a nice hook.
II connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
II lands with a good body shot.
II throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Goncalves is trying hard to land a takedown here. II sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Goncalves throws a hook but II avoids it easily.
Goncalves fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mach II has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santos Goncalves.

Goncalves closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming II to the mat! II manages to get full guard.
II seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Goncalves looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
II knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Goncalves on the ground.

Goncalves is sneakily working for an arm triangle but II sees it coming and defends easily.

Goncalves is trying to work for a kimura but II is defending well.
II is controlling Goncalves's trapped leg to prevent Goncalves from advancing to side control.
II tries to get to full guard but Goncalves has control of the leg.
II is trying to control but can't.

Goncalves is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so II is just riding it out for now. Goncalves eventually gives up the hold.
II is trying to get back to full guard.

Goncalves is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Goncalves tries to pass the half guard into mount. II knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

II is concentrating on defense, preventing Goncalves from advancing position.

Goncalves wants to work for an arm triangle but II is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
II trying to hold on to Goncalves's head to control him but Goncalves postures up.
II slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Goncalves avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

II will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mach II just wasn't active enough.
No luck for Goncalves with that takedown attempt.
II lands a right hook to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Goncalves looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? II is fending him off so far but Goncalves persists. Nope, II circles away and we're back to standing.
Goncalves walks into a left hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mach II dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Goncalves misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.


It looks like Santos Goncalves has been cut.
Goncalves checks a low kick from II.
II cracks Goncalves with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Goncalves forces II back against the cage and clinches.
II comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
II cracks Goncalves with a nice body shot.
II gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Goncalves.
II lands a nice knee to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
II lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Goncalves's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

II lands an elbow just above Goncalves 's eye.
II lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Goncalves is breathing heavily.

Goncalves is rocked!
II putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Goncalves in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Goncalves is still on wobbly legs! Can II finish him?
II lands an elbow inside.
II unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Goncalves! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but II is unloading with more strikes now! Goncalves drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mach II!
Mach II looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'I have tested my parametres. Now I'm battle ready. If I lose a fight I will terminate myself. As I said, I'm here to be deactivated or be Champion. To you, this island is hell. This island means pain and to me, pain is really good.'.
In defeat, Santos Goncalves stepped up to the mic, saying 'whatever it is what it is'.
