The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Downs fails to land with a series of punches.

Downs forces Carter back against the cage and clinches.

Downs has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Carter regains guard immediately.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Downs content to stall in guard here.
Downs seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carter for as long as he can get away with.
Carter preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Santo Downs.

Downs moves into the clinch.

Downs pulls guard effortlessly.

Downs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Carter wants to stand but Downs has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Downs wants to sweep here but Carter controlling him for the moment.

Downs looking for a triangle here. Carter is fighting it but it looks tight! Downs pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Carter is tapping out - this one is all over!
