The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews dodges the punch combination from Mejia.
Mejia tries a head kick but it misses.
Mejia fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mejia really is a fat lump.
Matthews doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mejia cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Mejia rushes Matthews and presses him up against the cage.
Matthews goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mejia prevents it.
Mejia is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Matthews can't get the takedown.
Sanford Mejia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Matthews.

Mejia jumps into guard, dragging Matthews to the mat.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Matthews forces his way into half guard.
Mejia wants to get back to full guard.

Matthews wants to free his trapped foot but Mejia is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Matthews is trying to work for a kimura but Mejia is defending well.

Matthews is keen to just control but Mejia is a slippery customer.
Matthews works his way into side control.

Matthews is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Mejia looks calm but he's in trouble here. Matthews gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Mejia is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Matthews lets go of the hold and Mejia can pop his arm back in it's socket.
