PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fergus Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitchell kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Get Up. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Fergus Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Smith!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Atkins and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith stalks Mitchell and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mitchell's face. Mitchell staggers backwards, shaken.
Mitchell throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.
Mitchell does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Mitchell takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Smith throws a head kick that misses.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Smith.
Mitchell is looking to land body kicks.
Smith throws a head kick that misses.
Smith misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mitchell misses with a double jab
and Mitchell takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mitchell tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Mitchell takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Smith has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Mitchell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.
Mitchell takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Smith avoids the head kick by Mitchell.
Smith throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Mitchell's head.

Mitchell misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Smith.

Mitchell is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Smith stuns Mitchell with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A slapping leg kick lands for Smith.
Smith throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Mitchell fails to land with a series of punches.
Mitchell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mitchell chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Smith can pounce on him.
Mitchell misses with a low kick.
Smith lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Mitchell on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Smith. Smith obviously looking to wear him down.
Smith lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mitchell takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
No joy there for Mitchell, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mitchell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mitchell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.

Smith drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mitchell dives on top into guard.
Mitchell is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Smith goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mitchell turns into him and now he's in Smith's guard.

Mitchell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Smith is trying to keep Mitchell in close.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Fergus Mitchell.
Smith throws a body kick that misses.
Mitchell rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smith connects with an inside leg kick.
Fergus Mitchell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mitchell throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Smith connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
That kick from Smith tenderised Mitchell's leg. Mitchell is trying to keep his angry face on.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mitchell tries to bum rush Smith with a series of wild strikes but Smith uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mitchell takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
A combination from Mitchell does no damage.
Mitchell uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Smith.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Smith dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mitchell lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Smith - that will leave a mark!
Mitchell has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Smith digs a good body shot into Mitchell's ribs.

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mitchell won't be happy with that.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith swings around for an armbar but Mitchell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Smith's guard.

Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mitchell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chris Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
