PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anzor Nartov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pertti Kurikka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Pertti Kurikka was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anzor Nartov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pertti Kurikka!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Dmitry Maklakov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurikka swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Nartov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kurikka won't be happy with that.
Nartov postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Kurikka really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nartov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Nartov goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kurikka has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Nartov but great work by Kurikka.

Kurikka decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kurikka should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Nartov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kurikka pinned against the cage. Kurikka gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kurikka misses with a combination

and Nartov counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kurikka's guard now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The fighters are working up against the cage. Kurikka manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Kurikka's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kurikka falls off balance throwing a combination

and Nartov counters with a takedown into side control.
Nartov lands a big left to the face of Kurikka, bouncing his head like a basketball. Another shot from Nartov and another - Kurikka is out! Nartov stands up and salutes his fans, who are going crazy in the stands.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Anzor Nartov!
During a confident post fight interview, Anzor Nartov thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
