PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hjalti Eyj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Ding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eyj comes to the cage accompanied by I'm Sexy and I Know It. The crowd seem to be enjoying Ding's choice of entrance music: Mortal Kombat. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hjalti Eyj!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Dick Ding!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eyj tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Eyj misses with a low kick.
Eyj fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Ding.
Ding takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Dick Ding has been cut.
Eyj throws a half hearted mid kick.
Eyj throws a head kick that misses.
Ding avoids the head kick by Eyj.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Eyj is defended easily by Ding.
A clash of legs there as Ding blocks the low kick.
Eyj tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Eyj misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ding looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Eyj fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ding has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Eyj shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ding pinned against the cage. Ding gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ding escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Eyj throws a low kick but Ding moves out of range easily.
Eyj ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ding moves away.
Eyj misses with a wild combination.
Eyj keeps Ding at a distance using the push kick.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ding crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Eyj - the referee stops the clock and Ding gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Eyj. Ding manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Hjalti Eyj seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eyj throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Eyj has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Bruize Brothers in the buildup to the fight.
Ding lands with a kick to the ribs.

enabling Ding to counter with a crisp jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Eyj avoids a punch combination nicely.

Ding takes the fight into the clinch.
Ding is trying to break the clinch but Eyj has him pressed against the cage.

Eyj breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Eyj throws a nice outside leg kick.
Eyj throws a lazy head kick
and Ding counters with an outside leg kick.
Ding throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Hjalti Eyj has been cut.
Ding tries to clinch up.
No luck for Eyj with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hjalti Eyj. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ding tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Eyj manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Eyj is defended easily by Ding.
Eyj is looking to score with low kicks.
Eyj tries a head kick but it misses.

Ding closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ding tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ding has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ding goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Eyj has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ding but great work by Eyj.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ding is looking for a sweep.

Eyj tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Eyj wants to control but Ding is keeping him busy.
Ding is trying to improve his position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Eyj wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ding keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hjalti Eyj will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ding looks to land a combination but Eyj avoids it well.
Eyj throws a leg kick but Ding sees it coming and moves out of range.

Ding drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ding is in close to Eyj's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Ding gets to his feet - Eyj follows without any prompting.

and Ding makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Ding misses with a wild combination.
Ding avoids a punch combination nicely.

Ding doesn't manage to clinch there - Eyj circles away.

Eyj misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Eyj tries a head kick but it misses.
Dick Ding is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ding clinches.

Eyj's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Eyj fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Ding.

Ding misses the shot to the body.

and Ding counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A lazy body kick from Eyj
and Ding counters with a three punch combo that has Eyj backing up. Eyj nods at Ding to acknowledge the strikes.
Eyj throws a leg kick but Ding checks it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ding on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Ding's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Eyj throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Eyj throws a low kick but it's checked well by Ding.
Eyj connects with a solid leg kick.
Ding takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Eyj tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Eyj lets loose with a powerful body kick. Ding will feel that in the morning.
Eyj throws a head kick that misses
and Ding counters with a low kick, right behind Eyj 's knee.
Ding slips a jab from Eyj.
Eyj connects with an inside leg kick.
Ding doesn't manage to clinch there - Eyj circles away.
Eyj throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Eyj scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Eyj has closed the distance and engaged Ding in a clinch.

Ding breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Eyj lands a front kick.
Eyj throws the kick towards the body but Ding avoids it.
Ding misses with a double jab.
Eyj scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Ding misses with a few strikes there.
Ding throws a nice outside leg kick.
Eyj moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Ding throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Eyj.
Ding is breathing heavily.
Eyj lands a head kick!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Eyj shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Eyj was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Eyj here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Ding is holding Eyj down, trying to stall.
Ding tries to bench press Eyj off him but Eyj keeps the position.
Ding is still trying to improve position.
Eyj working away.
Eyj with the ground and pound but Ding regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Ding is refusing to be controlled, as Eyj sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Eyj wants to pass to mount but Ding is defending the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hjalti Eyj dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Some bone on bone action there as Ding checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Ding tries to land a front kick but Eyj steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Ding drops Eyj with a beautiful combination! Eyj stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Ding is looking for the KO!

Oh Eyj is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

and Ding counters with a nice low kick that buckles Eyj's knee momentarily.

Ding closes the distance and clinches.
Eyj is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Ding breaks the clinch.
Eyj fails with the takedown
and Ding counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dick Ding!
A relieved looking Dick Ding thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
