PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between KJ Noons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Rico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rico has chosen Bolt Thrower - The IVth Crusade as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, KJ Noons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Johny Rico!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rico shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Noons defends it nicely.

Rico closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Rico tries to score with some ground and pound. Noons controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Rico tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Rico lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Noons down.
Rico tries to move into full mount but can't pass Noons's legs.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Rico working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Rico has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Noons prevents Rico from moving into mount.

Rico remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Rico might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Noons is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Rico asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Noons on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Noons tries to get out of the position.

Rico is looking to take a break and control but Noons is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rico is staying tight to Noons's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Let's hope that Rico has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Johny Rico dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Johny Rico hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Rico tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Noons was well out of range. Poor timing from Rico.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rico is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Noons's half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Johny Rico showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

KJ Noons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johny Rico.

Rico seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Noons does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Rico takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well Rico has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
