Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bruno Kovatch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Darby Dobbler!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dobbler bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kovatch gets back to half guard.
Kovatch tries to get to full guard but Dobbler has control of the leg.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kovatch manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Kovatch had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Dobbler is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kovatch Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Dobbler's back instead.
Dobbler trying to control the position but Kovatch manages to sink in the hooks.
Dobbler is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Dobbler turns into Kovatch and is now in his guard.

Dobbler gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Dobbler closes the distance and clinches.

Dobbler decides to pull guard.
Kovatch trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kovatch drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dobbler dives on top into guard.

Kovatch looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Dobbler has picked Kovatch up and slammed him! Kovatch can't keep hold of the triangle and Dobbler manages to pass to side control!

Dobbler decides to stand back up.

Dobbler clinches up against the cage.

Dobbler escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kovatch closes the distance but Dobbler moves to the side

and Dobbler counters by moving into the clinch.

Dobbler breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kovatch doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Dobbler counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Kovatch is breathing heavily.

Dobbler manages to break the clinch.
Kovatch shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dobbler counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Kovatch wants to clinch

and Dobbler counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dobbler.

Dobbler pulls Kovatch into guard.
Kovatch won't allow Dobbler to sweep him here.
Kovatch pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dobbler is keeping the position for now.
Dobbler has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Dobbler has his foot on Kovatch's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kovatch works his way back into a safe position though.

Dobbler pushes Kovatch off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Dobbler shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kovatch as he avoids it easily.

and Dobbler counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dobbler.

Dobbler misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Kovatch.
Kovatch fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruno Kovatch. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Dobbler breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kovatch tries to clinch but Dobbler moves away

and Dobbler counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Kovatch looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Dobbler passes into half guard.
Dobbler is looking to take a break and control but Kovatch is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kovatch looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Dobbler looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Dobbler trying to mount his opponent but Kovatch defends it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kovatch is pressing down on Dobbler's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Dobbler has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Kovatch to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Dobbler is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Kovatch pulls down on the head and he's put Dobbler to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Bruno Kovatch!
