PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Temples (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Burnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Temples!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dan Burnett!
The judges for this bout are , and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Temples circles away from the clinch attempt.
Burnett tries to clinch up but Temples circles away and keeps his distance.
Burnett fails in his attempt to clinch.
Burnett is looking to clinch.
Temples stuffs the takedown attempt from Burnett. Burnett gets slowly back to his feet.

Temples bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Temples throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Burnett works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Burnett is trying to stand back up but Temples is controlling him
Burnett keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Burnett wants to control but Temples is keeping busy.
Temples thows a huge punch but Burnett dodges it nicely.
Temples throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Burnett actively working from the bottom here.
Temples throwing shots but Burnett is blocking nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Burnett misses with a takedown attempt

and Temples decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Burnett's guard.
Temples stands up over Burnett, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Temples postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Burnett is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Temples, into his guard.
Temples looking for a sweep. Not yet Temples, not yet.
Temples on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Temples tries to get out of the position.
Burnett stands and throws Temples's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Burnett wants to stand but Temples has his arm trapped.
Burnett looks gassed!

Burnett tries for a kimura but Temples is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Temples throws a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Temples is looking for a sweep.
Temples gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Burnett tries to pass the half guard into mount. Temples knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Temples wants to improve his position but Burnett is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Temples is working hard here to advance position.
Burnett moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Temples.
Temples is looking for a sweep.
Burnett controls the position from side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Burnett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
A head kick by Burnett misses

and Temples counters with a shoot takedown. Burnett fights it but they end up in guard.
Temples postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Burnett looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Burnett looking for a guillotine here but Temples defends easily.
Temples tries to free his leg and advance position but Burnett is retaining full guard.
Temples missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Burnett had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Temples is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Burnett Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Temples's back instead.
Burnett is trying to stick to Temples's back but Temples is turning into Burnett. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Burnett's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Temples.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Temples scores with a takedown into Burnett's guard.
Burnett wants to sweep but no luck.
Temples throwing strikes from guard but Burnett blocks nicely.
Temples knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burnett on the ground.
Temples thows a big elbow that misses.
Justin Temples overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Temples lands a couple of digs.
Burnett keeping moving, preventing Temples from controlling successfully.
Burnett looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Burnett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Temples can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Burnett working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Temples doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Temples manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Temples makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Temples stands and throws Burnett's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Temples working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Temples has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Burnett clinches but Temples breaks the clinch

and Temples counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Temples.

Burnett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Temples can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Burnett is on top in guard.

Temples keeping busy on the bottom but Burnett has passed one foot through into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Burnett stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Temples to get to his feet.
Temples misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Temples shoots in but no luck this time.
Burnett shoots for a takedown but Temples saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Burnett tries to clinch but Temples moves away

and Temples counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Burnett!
Burnett is in a horrible position here. Temples smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Burnett bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Burnett wants to stand but Temples is controlling his posture from full guard.
Burnett is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Burnett trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Temples wants to sweep here but Burnett controlling him for the moment.
Temples keeping full guard, as Burnett tries to pass.
Temples looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Temples is trying to keep Burnett in close.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Burnett wants to clinch

and Temples counters with a shoot takedown. Burnett fights it but they end up in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Temples shoots in but no luck this time.

Burnett fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Temples, pushing him back against the cage.
Burnett scores with a knee to the head.
Temples is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Burnett tries to break the clinch but Temples is controlling the position.
Burnett scores with a knee to the head.
Temples softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Burnett taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Temples avoiding damage as Burnett throws knees to the body.
Temples is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Temples is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Burnett gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Temples. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Temples throws a knee to the head but misses.

Burnett has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Temples uses from the top position.

Burnett escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Temples gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Temples content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Temples accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Burnett has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Temples should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Burnett has tightened it up now! Temples should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
