PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Abbot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timi Kahuna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abbot comes into the arena with Primative blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tony Abbot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Timi Kahuna!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Santiago Holmes and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbot throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kahuna.
Abbot with a jab.
Abbot avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kahuna tries to clinch but Abbot is having none of it.
Abbot misses with a looping right.
Kahuna slips under a jab from Abbot.
Abbot tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kahuna was well out of range. Poor timing from Abbot.
Jab, jab by Abbot - just one landing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Abbot misses with a looping left.
Abbot moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.


It looks like Timi Kahuna has been cut.
Kahuna moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Kahuna manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Abbot on his heels. He'll look to pass Abbot's guard now, I'm sure.
Abbot looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Abbot tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kahuna pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Abbot is keeping the position for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Abbot can't keep his opponent in guard - Kahuna advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Abbot is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Well, if Kahuna is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Abbot gets full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kahuna wants to control from the top but Abbot keeps moving.

Abbot escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kahuna gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kahuna pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Abbot is keeping the position for now.
Abbot not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kahuna stands and throws Abbot's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Abbot is looking for a sweep.

Kahuna looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Kahuna is looking to take a break and control but Abbot is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
What's Abbot going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Abbot struggling a bit here.

Kahuna moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Abbot tries to improve position but can't.
Abbot is trying to control Kahuna's posture but Kahuna avoids it.
Kahuna laying and praying for a moment but Abbot takes advantage and regains half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Kahuna looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Abbot dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Timi Kahuna's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Abbot works the jab nicely.
Abbot misses with a body shot.
Abbot throws a nice looking combination but Kahuna bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Abbot swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Good exchange - Abbot coming out on top.
Abbot scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kahuna doesn't seem bothered though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kahuna closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Abbot to the mat! Abbot manages to get full guard.
Kahuna slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Abbot is not content to let Kahuna control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Abbot is looking to reverse the position.
Timi Kahuna has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kahuna is trying to get an arm triangle but Abbot is defending well.

Kahuna working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Kahuna has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Abbot prevents Kahuna from taking his back.
Abbot definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kahuna trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Abbot working to try and regain half guard.
Kahuna controlling the position easily from mount.
Abbot stops Kahuna from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kahuna goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Abbot turns into him and now he's in Kahuna's guard.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Abbot here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Kahuna is trying to hold Abbot in close to prevent damage but Abbot has managed to pass into half guard.
Abbot tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kahuna knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kahuna manages to get to full guard.
Kahuna keeping moving, preventing Abbot from controlling successfully.
Kahuna trying to keep a closed guard but Abbot is proving a slippery customer.

Kahuna working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Abbot doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Abbot manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kahuna not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

A close second round but Timi Kahuna will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Abbot sizes up Kahuna with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Abbot jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Abbot throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kahuna stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Abbot fails to land with a series of punches.
Kahuna fails in his attempt to clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kahuna moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Tony Abbot is winning the standup battle so far.
Kahuna shoots in looking for a takedown but Abbot manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kahuna's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kahuna fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Abbot sprawls well initially but Kahuna persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kahuna is looking to take a break and control but Abbot is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kahuna takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Abbot gets full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Abbot has his foot on Kahuna's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kahuna works his way back into a safe position though.

Abbot looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kahuna passes into half guard.
Kahuna is taking a breather. Abbot says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Abbot wants to control but Kahuna is keeping busy.

Kahuna is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Abbot doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kahuna.

Kahuna is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Abbot is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Timi Kahuna!
