PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Burt Guth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Kwaak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guth comes to the cage accompanied by Alva Noto - Module 7. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Burt Guth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Kwaak!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kwaak displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Guth.
Guth throws a right hand that misses

and Kwaak counters with a single leg into guard. Guth didn't expect that.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kwaak is looking to work some ground and pound but Guth has wrist control.
Kwaak loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kwaak must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kwaak's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kwaak accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Guth throws an elbow that misses. Kwaak uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Guth's guard. Nice move by Kwaak!

Kwaak working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Guth's head.

Kwaak throws a strike but Guth rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Guth shoots in and drives through. Kwaak sprawls well.

Kwaak has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Guth is landing a low percentage of strikes.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sam Kwaak was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Guth looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Guth really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kwaak uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Guth.
Guth throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kwaak.

Burt Guth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Guth is defended easily by Kwaak.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kwaak tries to free his leg and advance position but Guth is retaining full guard.
Guth is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Sam Kwaak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Guth lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Guth, as that shot connected.

Kwaak is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Danga de danga de dang - Guth scores with a four punch combination!
Guth is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kwaak sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sam Kwaak is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Kwaak counters with a nice low kick that buckles Guth's knee momentarily.
Guth looks to land a left hand but Kwaak moved out of range nicely.
Guth seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Kwaak throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Guth shoots in looking for a takedown. Kwaak tries to sprawl out of it but Guth keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kwaak manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Guth looks to land a combination but Kwaak avoids it well.
A chopping leg kick lands by Kwaak.
A big left from Guth misses.
Burt Guth is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Guth swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Guth throws a sloppy head kick and Kwaak moves out of range easily.
Kwaak steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Guth.
Guth tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kwaak swivels and escapes.

Guth is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Guth throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Kwaak counters with a nice leg kick.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Burt Guth showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kwaak has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Sam Kwaak tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
