Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Lima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Johnny Nova!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nova shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Lima blocking the ground and pound attempt from Nova.
Lima is pressing down on Nova's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Lima utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Lima looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nova is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nova trying to control but Lima is working from the bottom.
Lima looking for a sweep. Not yet Lima, not yet.
Nova prevents Lima from getting back to his feet.
Nova working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nova tries to clinch up but Lima circles away and keeps his distance.
Lima pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lima looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Nova!
A nice elbow there by Lima.
Lima unloading with bombs!
Lima prevents Nova from getting the reversal.
Lima trying to control but Nova is having none of it.
Lima controlling his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lima lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Nova wants to control but Lima is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nova is wriggling around trying to escape.
Lima trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Nova is in a horrible position here. Lima smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Lima goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Nova is on top in guard.
Lima throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Lima has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nova thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Lima has his foot on Nova's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nova works his way back into a safe position though.

Nova trying to control but Lima is working from the bottom.

Nova postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lima is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Nova, into his guard.
Lima pushing down on Nova's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Lima controlling the action here.

Lima seems to be working for a kimura but Nova defends the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nova has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lima is working away from the top position though.
Lima prevents Nova from improving his position.
Lima missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Nova is refusing to be controlled, as Lima sits in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A combination from Lima does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Lima dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Lima takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Nova shoots and misses

and Lima counters with a nice double leg into side control. Nova won't be happy with that.
Lima working the body and head with strikes.
Lima throws a strike aimed at the side of Nova's head but Nova avoids it well.
Lima controlling the position.
Nova gets back to half guard.
Nova is looking for a sweep. Lima is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nova punching from the bottom.

Lima is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Nova has managed to free his arm - good work.
Lima is trying to control the action in half guard but Nova is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nova throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Nova trying to control here.
Nova is staying active underneath Lima, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Lima has managed to clinch.

Lima jumps guard.
Nova stopping the sweep attempt from Lima.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lima working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Nova.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lima throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Nova working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Nova thows a big elbow that misses.

Lima had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Nova is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Lima Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Nova's back instead.
Nova trying to control the action but Lima just sinks the hooks in.
Nova tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Lima misses with a head shot.
Nova is desperately trying to improve his position but Lima has a good base and remains in mount.

Nova tries to improve his position but Lima has taken his back! Lima has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Nova tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Lima pushes Nova away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Carlos Lima!
