PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roy Lara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyone Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyone Castro looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roy Lara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyone Castro!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lara gets the takedown into side control.
Lara working the ground and pound from side control.
Lara tries to score with some ground and pound. Castro controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Lara has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
You can see the frustration on Castro's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Lara tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lara has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lara could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Lara is trying to get an arm triangle but Castro is defending well.
Lara connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Castro some visible discomfort.

Lara decides to stand up, so the ref orders Castro to his feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Castro misses with an attempted mid kick.
Lyone Castro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lara gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lara tries for a kimura but Castro is defending well.

Lara stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Lara really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

and Lara counters with a nice body kick.

and Lara counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Castro shoots in but no luck this time.
Castro fails with the takedown

and Lara counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lara.

Lara breaks from the clinch.

Lara feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Castro has a closed guard, preventing Lara from standing up.

Lara decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Castro gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Lara would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Lara stands up and waves to Castro to follow him.

and Lara counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Castro dives in and grabs Lara's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lara pushes down on Castro's head and hops out.
Roy Lara has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lyone Castro.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Castro misses with a body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Lara shoots in and gets a takedown into Castro's guard.
Lara throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Castro has a closed guard, preventing Lara from standing up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Castro utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lara gets to his feet. Castro looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Castro throws the kick towards the body but Lara avoids it.

Lara drives through with a takedown into Castro's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Castro is breathing heavily.

Castro is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lara defends well.

Castro is working an open guard so Lara takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Lara feints and as Castro raises his hands in defense, Lara changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lara is working Castro over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Lara tries to stand but Castro is controlling from the bottom.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Castro steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lara.

Castro avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Lara breaks from the clinch.
Castro throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Castro throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

and Lara counters with a nice body kick.

Lara closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Lara decides to stand back up.
Castro misses with a takedown
and Lara counters with a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roy Lara dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Lara lets loose with a powerful body kick. Castro will feel that in the morning.
Castro shoots in looking for a takedown but Lara manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Castro's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Lara closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Castro quickly recovers to half guard.
Castro really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lara. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lara throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
It looks like Lara is going to stand back up.
Castro takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lara is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Lara is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Castro sees it coming and defends easily.

Lara stands up and beckons Castro to join him on the feet.
Lara is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Castro can do to turn this around?

Lara has Castro up against the cage in a clinch.

Lara ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Lara no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Lara is looking for a triangle but Castro pushes his legs off easily.
Castro wants to stand and escape but instead Lara has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Lara gets to his feet. Castro looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Lara stands up over Castro, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Lara gets to his feet - Castro follows without any prompting.

Lara closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Castro to the mat! Castro manages to get full guard.

Lara decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Castro, up you get!

Lara throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Castro tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lara is in Castro's guard.

Lara stands up from Castro's guard - Lara perhaps looking for a knockout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lara bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lara lands a nice forearm strike.
Castro looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Castro can't do much from the bottom here.
Castro gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lara working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Lyone Castro has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Roy Lara is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Lara is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Well Lara has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
