The crowd seem to be enjoying Magred's choice of entrance music: walk like an egyptian. James Magred has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Emilio Copeland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Magred!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Magred throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Copeland tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Magred is in Copeland's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Magred postures up.
Copeland looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Magred pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Copeland is keeping the position for now.
Magred wants to stand but Copeland has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Copeland is adopting a defensive guard.
Copeland working a defensive guard but Magred manages to pass into side control anyway.
You can see the frustration on Copeland's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Copeland is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Magred remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Copeland is trying to improve his position.
Copeland really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Copeland is not content to let Magred control the position.

Magred is trying to get an arm triangle but Copeland is defending well.

Magred decides to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Magred changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Copeland looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Copeland is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Magred is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Copeland is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Copeland is working hard here to advance position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Magred is landing with some decent strikes but Copeland is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Copeland is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Magred locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Copeland is forced to tap!
