PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Albert De Morcerf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). De Morcerf comes into the arena with Non, Je ne regrette Rien blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Albert De Morcerf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Martin Russell!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Morcerf doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Russell counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for De Morcerf!
De Morcerf is looking for a sweep.
De Morcerf is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
De Morcerf is not content to let Russell control the position.
Russell content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
De Morcerf can't do much from the bottom here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
De Morcerf tries to escape but Russell is in control.
De Morcerf managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Russell.
Russell tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Russell content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Russell's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Martin Russell wasn't active enough on the ground.

Russell rushes De Morcerf and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Russell works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Russell stands up from guard. Let's bang!

De Morcerf tries to keep at a distance but Russell has taken the fight into the clinch.

Russell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Russell has taken the fight to the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Russell has De Morcerf pressed against the cage, preventing De Morcerf from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Russell stalls.
De Morcerf tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Russell avoids it.

De Morcerf wants to break free but Russell has control.
De Morcerf working hard to break the clinch.
Russell fails to pull guard.

Russell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
De Morcerf throws a right hand that Russell ducks under and follows up with a left that Russell also avoids with ease.

Russell drives through with a takedown into guard.
Russell controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Russell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with De Morcerf. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Russell wants to stand but De Morcerf has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
De Morcerf controls Russell momentarily but Russell frees himself.

Russell wants to control from the top but De Morcerf keeps moving.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Martin Russell hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
De Morcerf will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
De Morcerf is breathing heavily.

De Morcerf gets caught napping as Russell dives in and scores a takedown. De Morcerf manages to retain guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Russell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Russell stays in close to De Morcerf's body and controls the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
De Morcerf working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Russell.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Russell dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Russell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Russell is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. De Morcerf can't fight it off and eventually Russell manages to take the fight to the floor. De Morcerf looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Russell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Russell in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

De Morcerf keeping moving, preventing Russell from controlling successfully.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Martin Russell wasn't active enough on the ground.

Russell decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
De Morcerf wants to improve his position but Russell is controlling well.

De Morcerf looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Martin Russell has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

De Morcerf is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Russell pulls his head out easily.
Russell content to control rather than advance.

Russell looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
De Morcerf is looking for a sweep. Russell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Russell seems to be working for a kimura but De Morcerf defends the submission attempt.
Russell looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks De Morcerf with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Russell throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Russell is sneakily working for an arm triangle but De Morcerf sees it coming and defends easily.

Russell decides to stand up.

Russell bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Russell tries to advance to mount but can't.
Russell in side control lands a decent elbow.
De Morcerf struggling a bit here.
Russell moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Russell cracks De Morcerf with a big elbow.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Russell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Russell manages to get an easy takedown there - catching De Morcerf on his heels. He'll look to pass De Morcerf's guard now, I'm sure.

Russell feints and as De Morcerf raises his hands in defense, Russell changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Russell wants to control from the top but De Morcerf keeps moving.

De Morcerf is looking for a triangle but Russell pushes his legs off easily.
Russell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. De Morcerf is keeping the position for now.

Russell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Russell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Russell controls the position.
Russell tries to advance to mount but can't.
Russell lands a nice forearm strike.
Russell in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Albert De Morcerf has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Russell creates some space and throws a big elbow, but De Morcerf sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

De Morcerf tries to improve position but can't.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Russell remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Russell landing a few strikes.
De Morcerf is letting Russell control him for a moment.

Russell thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Martin Russell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Russell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After winning the bout, Martin Russell thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
The defeated Albert De Morcerf had this to say: 'It was my lose, and i dont like its taste. I am going to train harder for not to taste it again!'.
