PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Quinton Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wilson Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Quinton Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry misses with a double jab.
A jab from Rage finds it's way through Perry's defenses.
Rage fails in his attempt to clinch.
Perry throws out a powerful jab.
Perry stuffs the takedown.

Perry fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rage sprawls well initially but Perry persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Rage is pressing down on Perry's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Perry postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rage looking to control.
Rage is looking to stand up but Perry isn't so interested in that idea.

Rage manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Perry wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Rage.

Perry bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Perry wants to control from the top but Rage keeps moving.

Rage had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Perry is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Rage Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Perry's back instead.

Rage is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Perry. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Rage lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Perry.
Rage controlling well, preventing Perry from escaping the position.
Rage gets his hands free as Perry looks to control.
Perry is covering up but some of the strikes from Rage are getting through and doing damage.
Rage has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rage lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Perry hold on?!
Rage is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Perry up.
Perry is breathing heavily.
Rage has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Perry.

Rage is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Perry defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Oh Perry is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rage lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Perry.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rage lands a shot to the body.
Rage is not going to allow Perry to sit and survive in this position.
Perry seems to have got his legs back now.

Perry wants to get back to his feet.
You can see the frustration on Perry's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Rage is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Rage gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Rage gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Rage apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Rage shoots in and drives through. Perry sprawls well.
Perry catches Rage with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Perry slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Rage fails in his attempt to clinch.
Perry misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rage is looking to clinch.
Rage wants to clinch.
Rage shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Perry counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Perry.
Quinton Perry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wilson Rage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Rage.
Rage tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Rage gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Perry.

Rage turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Perry is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Rage cracks Perry with a big elbow.
An elbow from Rage crashes against the mat.
Perry tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rage wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rage scores with a couple of short elbows.
Rage works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Perry regains half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rage working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Rage landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Perry is trying to maintain the position but Rage is very close to passing his half guard.
Perry has hold of Rage's hands but Rage slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wilson Rage dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rage is looking to clinch.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rage paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A punch lands to the side of Rage 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Perry rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rage moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Quinton Perry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rage shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rage showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perry trying to control here.
Perry is looking to improve his position.
Rage is trying to control the action in half guard but Perry is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Rage decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Rage gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Rage takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Perry swats away the attempt to clinch by Rage.
Perry misses with a wild combination.

and Perry moves into the clinch.
Rage misses with a punch on the inside.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Rage.

Perry wants the takedown. Rage is fighting it off but Perry persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rage's guard against the cage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perry lands a couple of elbows.
Perry throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Perry throws and elbow that misses. Rage uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Perry's guard. Nice move by Rage!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rage connects with a good right hand that stumbles Perry. Perry circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Perry drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rage manages to get back to half guard.
Rage pushes Perry off looking to stand but Perry dives back in and keeps control.
Wilson Rage has got the better of the ground game so far.
Perry is controlling the pace.
Perry tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rage controls his leg.

Rage has one foot on Perry's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Rage lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rage.

Rage tries to close the distance and clinch up but Perry swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Rage makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Rage loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Wilson Rage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Perry shoots in looking for a takedown. Rage tries to sprawl out of it but Perry keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rage manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rage is looking to clinch.
Rage clinches but Perry breaks the clinch

and Perry decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rage's guard.

Rage kicks Perry off and gets to his feet.
Rage wants to clinch up but Perry keeps it at a distance.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
The fight stays on the outside here - Perry looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rage pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Perry takes a jab right on the kisser.
Perry lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

and Perry cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Perry ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Perry no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Perry throws a right hand that Rage ducks under and follows up with a left that Rage also avoids with ease.

Quinton Perry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rage gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rage swings wildly with an uppercut but Perry uses good head movement to avoid it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rage tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Rage stalling in the clinch but Perry improves position.

Perry is trying to break free.
Rage has Perry pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Perry manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Perry is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Rage gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Quinton Perry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Rage tries to work over Perry's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Perry has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rage uses from the top position.
Rage sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Perry's guard.

Quinton Perry showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Rage has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
