Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chung Montoya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Spear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spear is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Be Survivor. Spear has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Mike Spear has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montoya avoids a punch combination nicely.
Spear motions for Montoya to come forward. Spear throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Spear thows a body shot but no joy.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Spear escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Montoya gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Montoya has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spear is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Montoya's half guard.

Spear is wriggling around trying to escape.
BOOM! Montoya connects with a massive shot to the dome!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Montoya throws a right and a left that Spear avoids nicely.

Montoya has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spear can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Spear is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Montoya gets his way!

Spear is trying to remain composed but Montoya is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Montoya's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Montoya has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Spear.
Spear is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Montoya connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Spear to escape the position.

Montoya is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Spear defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Montoya lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Montoya.

Spear is trying to remain composed but Montoya is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
Montoya slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Montoya's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Spear is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chung Montoya dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Montoya throws a head kick that half lands.
Spear takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Spear takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Spear on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Montoya. Montoya obviously looking to wear him down.
A head kick misses from Montoya.
Montoya has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Spear scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Montoya is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Spear's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Spear's back!
Spear takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Montoya is landing with strikes. Spear can't take much more of this.

Montoya has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Spear has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

You can see the frustration on Spear's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Chung Montoya overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Montoya scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Spear is looking for a way out.

Chung Montoya showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Montoya, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
