PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rex Tyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Unigu Rege (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyler comes into the arena with Solonen ja Kosola - RÄPPII blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rex Tyler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Unigu Rege!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rege misses with a straight right.
Rex Tyler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rege misses with a wild body shot.
Rege moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Rege slaps away a takedown attempt from Tyler, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rege closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tyler circles away.
Rege misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Tyler changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rege tries to avoid it but Tyler manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rege to the ground. Rege escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Tyler decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Rege tries to roll over but Tyler keeps him under control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rege is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Tyler regains half guard there - taking advantage of Rege's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

and Rege counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Tyler shoots in looking for a takedown but Rege manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tyler's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Rege stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tyler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rege must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tyler fails with the takedown

and Rege holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Rege has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tyler avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Tyler is working for takedown but Rege is calmly controlling the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Unigu Rege was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Rege is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tyler is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Tyler tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rege defends well and Tyler ends up having to push Rege into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Rege changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Tyler fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Unigu Rege is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Tyler will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

We've been hearing that Tyler has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Unigu Rege comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rege has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
