PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lon Malone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Reese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Reese's choice of entrance music: Rush - YYZ. Victor Reese has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lon Malone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Victor Reese!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malone keeps the fight on the outside.
Malone tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Malone could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Reese lands a head kick. Malone smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Reese pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Reese changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Malone tries to avoid it but Reese manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Malone to the ground. Malone escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Malone tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Reese tries to clinch there but Malone circles away.

Malone fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Reese to the ground. Malone is now in Reese's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Malone stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Reese drops Malone with a left and a right! Oh, Malone is hurt - Reese dives into side control looking to finish!


Malone is rocked!


Lon Malone's cut is getting worse.
Reese wants to control but Malone is keeping him busy.
Malone is trying to improve his position.
Malone is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reese cracks Malone with a big right hand but Malone just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Reese trying to control the action but Malone is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Reese wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Malone, who protects the arm well.
Reese throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Malone works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Malone slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Reese looking to sit in guard and control but Malone gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Malone is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Reese working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Malone has passed into half guard!
Reese slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Malone won't allow Reese to get back to his feet.
Malone showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Reese looking for a sweep. Not yet Reese, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Malone content to stall in guard here.

We're going to have a standup here because Lon Malone wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Malone misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Malone cracks the inside of Reese's front leg.
A punch combination from Reese misses.

Malone closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Malone is taking a breather. Reese says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Malone has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Malone is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Malone is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Reese sees it coming and defends easily.
Malone with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Reese keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Reese tries to roll over but Malone keeps him under control.
Malone performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Victor Reese will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Lon Malone's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Malone fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Reese, pushing him back against the cage.
Malone tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Reese smiles and moves away.
Reese throws a head kick but Malone moves out of range.
Reese lands a nice leg kick that just misses Malone's sensitive parts.

Reese keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Malone staying out of range there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reese throws a lazy body kick
and Malone counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Malone swats away the attempt to clinch by Reese.
Reese throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Malone's head.

Malone has managed to clinch.

Malone turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Malone manages to end up in side control.
You can see the frustration on Reese's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Lon Malone overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Malone scores with a takedown into Reese's guard.
Malone engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Reese looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Malone not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

A looping hook to the body misses from Reese. Malone does a little dance to reset his feet.

Malone lands a leg kick that knocks Reese off balance momentarily.

Malone closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Reese's guard.
Malone might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

and Malone counters with a nice body kick.

Reese tries to sprawl but Malone drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Malone looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Reese with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Malone is looking for a kimura here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Malone stops Reese from getting back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Malone is taking a breather. Reese says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Malone stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!



Malone looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Reese!

Reese pushes Malone away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Malone gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Malone thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Malone has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Reese misses with a head kick.
Reese fails to land the takedown.

Malone decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Reese tries to roll over but Malone keeps him under control.
Reese trying to control but Malone postures up.
Well, if Malone is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Malone looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Malone in particular looking to stall.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Malone here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Reese is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Malone pulls his head out easily.

Reese is trying to stand up here but Malone is controlling him well.

Reese tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Malone wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Lon Malone.
Reese throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Reese!

And that's the end of the fight!
Lon Malone showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Malone has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
