PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lyone Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyone Castro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Evans!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castro throws a leg kick

and Evans decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Castro's guard.
Evans is working Castro over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Evans throwing strikes but missing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Castro is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Evans dives into side control.
Castro knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Evans on the ground.
Evans is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Castro will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Evans is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Castro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Castro has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Evans landing a few strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Evans throws an elbow but Castro slips to the side and avoids it well.

Evans is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Castro has escaped the position, nice work there.
Evans works to advance to full mount. Castro defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Castro is looking to get to half guard.
Castro is breathing heavily.
Evans controlling the position easily from mount.
Evans lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Evans unloading with bombs!
Evans scoring with strikes but Castro is staying in there.
Evans lands a nice shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Evans controlling his opponent.
Evans tries to control but Castro wriggling away.

Evans looking for a guillotine from mount but Castro is having none of it.
Castro is squirming around, avoiding Evans's attempts to control the action.
Castro takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Castro is wriggling around trying to escape.
Evans breaks from Castro's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The referee warns Castro that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Castro is squirming around, avoiding Evans's attempts to control the action.
Evans landing strikes from the mount and Castro is in trouble!

Evans scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Castro?


Castro is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Evans scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Oh Castro is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Evans lands a heavy elbow.

Evans has hold of Castro's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Castro manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Evans fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Castro is squirming around, avoiding Evans's attempts to control the action.
Evans is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Evans has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Evans working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Castro is bucking up trying to escape but Evans cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Evans dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Evans thows a body shot but no joy.
Castro seems to have got his legs back now.
Evans thows a body kick. Castro tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Evans scores with a push kick.
Evans throws a head kick that half lands.

Evans gets a takedown into half guard.
Evans wants to lay and pray for a moment but Castro keeps working.

Evans is working for a submission of some sort.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Evans is taking a breather. Castro says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Evans. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Evans has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Castro defend it? Evans steps over the head and cranks it - Castro is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Evans!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nick Evans!
After winning the bout, Nick Evans thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
