And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, JayDee Penn!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kaufmore is trying to defend but Penn finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Penn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Penn wants to take a breather but Kaufmore is having none of it.

Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Penn trying to mount his opponent but Kaufmore defends it.
Kaufmore is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Penn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kaufmore does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Penn might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kaufmore haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Penn is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kaufmore has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kaufmore is staying active underneath Penn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kaufmore is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Penn pulls his head out easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kaufmore avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kaufmore sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Penn's guard.

Penn tries to get to full guard but Kaufmore has control of the leg.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kaufmore is looking to control Penn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kaufmore avoid being mounted?

My spies in The Cave Fighting Team inform me that Penn has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Penn is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kaufmore can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Penn tries to control but Kaufmore wriggling away.

Penn lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Penn lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Kaufmore hang on?
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kaufmore wants to control but Penn is having none of it.
Kaufmore is controlling an arm, preventing Penn from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Kaufmore is wriggling around trying to escape.
Kaufmore bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Penn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kaufmore doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kaufmore manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kaufmore wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.

Penn has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kaufmore is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Penn.

Kaufmore is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Penn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Penn sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kaufmore prevents Penn from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JayDee Penn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Penn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kaufmore is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Penn is defending well though. Kaufmore let's go of the attempt for now.
Penn is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Kaufmore off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Penn tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Kaufmore takes Penn's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Penn is in trouble.

Kaufmore looking to break Penn's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Penn remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Kaufmore will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Kaufmore has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Penn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kaufmore has his foot on Penn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penn works his way back into a safe position though.

Well Penn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
