PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Drum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patt Magroin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drum comes into the arena with Emiliana Torrini - Jungle Drum blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magroin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Drum feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Magroins jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Magroin lands a jab to the head.

Drum throws an overhand right that lands on Magroin's shoulder, as Magroin tries to avoid the shot.
Magroin fails to land with a series of punches.
Magroin drops his hands momentarily and Drum takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Drum rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Magroin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Magroin scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

It looks like Joshua Drum has been cut.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Magroin has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Drum looks to land a right hand but Magroin moved out of range.

Drum connects with a good right hand that stumbles Magroin. Magroin circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Magroin tries to bum rush Drum with a series of wild strikes but Drum uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Patt Magroin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Drum bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Magroin's head backwards.
Magroin scores with a one two! Drum had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Drum looks to score with a jab to the body but Magroin is just out of range.
Drum lands a right hook to the body.
Drum cracks Magroin with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

I was talking to Drum's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Magroin tries to break the clinch but Drum is controlling the position.
Magroin is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Drum creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Magroin with a big uppercut! Magroin tries to clinch up but Drum pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Magroin to the mat! Magroin covers up and Drum unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
