PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hevi Hends (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackson Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Taylor is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Morning Light - Concorde Dawn. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hevi Hends!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jackson Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hends looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Taylor is fending him off so far but Hends persists. Nope, Taylor circles away and we're back to standing.
Hends moves away from the strike by Taylor.
Taylor tries to land a front kick but Hends steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Taylor jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Hends shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Taylor wants to get back to his feet but Hends is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Taylor not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Taylor is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Hends stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Taylor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Taylor wants to sweep but no luck.
Hends will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Taylor wants to stand and escape but Hends is having none of it.
Taylor looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hends is one step ahead there.
Taylor looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hends puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hends slips a jab from Taylor.
A jab from Taylor finds it's way through Hends's defenses.
A big right from Taylor misses.
Hends shoots in for a takedown but Taylor shows good takedown defense.

Taylor shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hends shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hevi Hends. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hends steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Taylor.
A slow jab from Taylor misses its intended target.
Taylor misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hends.
Taylor looks to throw the jab but Hends is out of range.
Hends doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Taylor counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hends is breathing heavily.
Hends avoids the body shot from Taylor.
Hends takes one to the chin there.
Hends with a lazy takedown attempt

and Taylor counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hends won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Taylor is looking to take a break and control but Hends is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Taylor stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Taylor takes a swing at Hends's ribcage but misses.
Hends looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Taylor is fending him off so far but Hends persists. Nope, Taylor circles away and we're back to standing.
Taylor throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hends uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Taylor.
Hends bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hends uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Taylor.
Horrible takedown by Hends or perhaps it was just good defense by Taylor which made him look bad.
Hends takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Hends really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Taylor tries to land a leg kick but Hends saw it coming and moves away.
Taylor throws a series of punches but Hends avoids them all with ease.
Hends looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nice body punch from Taylor.

Taylor shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Taylor working the ground and pound effectively.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Taylor lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Taylor tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Taylor falls off balance throwing a combination

and Hends counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Hends tries to pass to full mount but Taylor defends it.
Taylor wants to get back to full guard but Hends has mounted him!
Taylor tries to buck Hends off but he can't manage it.

Hends is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Taylor can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Taylor working to try and regain half guard.

Hends is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Taylor has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Taylor!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Taylor stands up from Hends's guard - Taylor perhaps looking for a knockout.
Taylor uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Hends has time to react.
Taylor tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hends swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hends walks into a straight right hand from Taylor.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Taylor misses with a few strikes there.

Hends instigates a clinch.
Hends drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Taylor gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Taylor struggles to land a body shot inside as Hends controls his hands.
Taylor trying to control the position but instead, Hends has worked for underhooks and has pushed Taylor into the cage.

Hends has Taylor pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hends pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Taylor tumbling to the mat - Hends dives into Taylor's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Taylor is striking but Hends is not phased and passes to half guard.
Taylor has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hends is working away from the top position though.
Taylor really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hends. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Taylor is trying to control but Hends passes into side control!
Hends tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Taylor is trying to control Hends's posture but Hends avoids it.
Taylor is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Hends is staying active.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Taylor sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Taylor tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Hends passes the guard and advances to mount!
Taylor is desperately trying to improve his position but Hends has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Taylor tries to hold on but Hends postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hevi Hends will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Taylor throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Good standup being displayed there by Taylor as he connects with a hook.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hends takes one to the side of the head.
Taylor lands a slapping body shot.
A left lands for Taylor.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Taylor throws a hook but Hends avoids it easily.
Jackson Taylor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hends on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Hends ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Taylor swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Taylor missing with a left hand there. Hends was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Taylor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Taylor looks to land a right hand but Hends moved out of range.
Taylor misses with an uppercut. Hends saw that one coming.
Hends blocks a head kick by Taylor.
Hends takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Hends doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Taylor to counter with a crisp jab.

Taylor pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Hends moves out of range of the leg kick from Taylor.

Taylor shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hends's guard.
Taylor wants to control from the top but Hends keeps moving.
Hends wants to sweep but no luck.
Hends utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hends wants to improve his position but instead Taylor has moved into half guard.
Taylor seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hends does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Taylor thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Jackson Taylor has got the better of the ground game so far.

Taylor stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Taylor misses with a head kick.
Taylor misses with a body punch

and Hends counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hends won't allow Taylor to get back to his feet.

Hends advances to half guard.
Taylor works his way to full guard. Good work.
Taylor wants to hit a switch here but Hends passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Taylor there!

Hends goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Taylor is on top in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Taylor content to stall in guard here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jackson Taylor comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Taylor has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
