The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rinaldi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vasconcelos sprawls well. Vasconcelos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rinaldi gets slowly back to his feet.
Vasconcelos closes the distance and clinches.
Rinaldi drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Vasconcelos gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Vasconcelos gets underhooks to prevent Rinaldi's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luca Rinaldi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vasconcelos lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Rinaldi is trying to drag Vasconcelos to the mat but Vasconcelos just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Vasconcelos breaks from the clinch.
Vasconcelos fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Vasconcelos shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rinaldi is trying to defend but Vasconcelos finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Vasconcelos working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rinaldi won't allow Vasconcelos to pass to mount.
Vasconcelos is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Vasconcelos is trying to work for a kimura but Rinaldi is defending well.

Vasconcelos takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Rinaldi lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Vasconcelos has his foot on Rinaldi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rinaldi works his way back into a safe position though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rinaldi is sitting in close to Vasconcelos's body. Vasconcelos has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Rinaldi is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Rinaldi is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Vasconcelos.
