PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Walter White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). White's entrance music is Crystal Blue Persuasion. A fine choice. Smith has chosen Till I Collapse as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Walter White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith drives through with a takedown into White's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
White keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.
Smith preventing the sweep.

White escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

White working for a triangle but Smith defends it easily.

Smith has gone for a leg lock! White slips out almost immediately though and dives into Smith's guard.

White's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
White is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Smith has his foot on White's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. White works his way back into a safe position though.
White scoring with some ground and pound.
White stays in close to Smith's body and controls the position.
White cracks Smith with a solid left hand.
White is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
White looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Walter White.
White shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

White tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten White somewhat.

White controls from within his opponent's guard.
White seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Smith for as long as he can get away with.
Smith wants to hit a switch here but White passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Smith there!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
White controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Smith feints and as White raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

White throws his legs up looking for a submission but Smith uses it to pass to side control.
White is looking for a sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A lull in the action here as Smith stalls from top position.
Smith working away.
White is looking for a sweep.

White throws Smith to one side and escapes!

White drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Smith manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
White takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
White thows a huge punch but Smith dodges it nicely.
Smith wants to control but White is keeping busy and won't allow it.
White trying to control the pace.
Smith is trying to get back to full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

White is working for a submission of some sort.
White wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
White seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Smith is trying to control but can't.
White controlling the action here.

We're going to have a standup here because Walter White wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from White is defended easily by Smith.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

White closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard.
White is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control.
Smith is looking to sweep but instead, White has passed into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
White throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Smith is trying to stand back up but White is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walter White dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


A combination from Smith does no damage.

White clinches up with Smith and pushes him back against the cage.
White effectively controlling the action here.

White wants the takedown. Smith is fighting it off but White persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Smith's guard against the cage.
White throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smith works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
White makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Smith keeping full guard, as White tries to pass.
White pushing down on Smith's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Walter White wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
John Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Smith pushes White up against the cage in a clinch.
White trying to land knees to the body.

Smith turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Smith wants to control but White is keeping him busy.
Walter White is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
White tries to escape but Smith is in control.

Smith decides to stand up, so the ref orders White to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
White shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

White looking to score a takedown here. Smith is defending well but White drives through and ends up in Smith's guard.
Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.

White decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

White moves into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

White jumps guard.
Smith is stalling in the full guard.

White has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

White manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Walter White showed his dominance in that final round.
Well White has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Walter White thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
In defeat, John Smith stepped up to the mic, saying 'I tried my best but he came out the better man'.
