The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustavo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Girardi napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Girardi tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Girardi is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Gustavo asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Girardi is looking to reverse the position.
Gustavo cracks Girardi with a big right hand but Girardi just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Girardi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gustavo's guard.
Girardi has gone for a leg lock! Gustavo slips out almost immediately though and dives into Girardi's guard.
Gustavo lands a couple of digs.
Gustavo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Girardi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gustavo connects with a couple of short punches.
Girardi is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Gustavo has his hands clasped together but Girardi extends and breaks Gustavo's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Girardi.

A very excited looking Giorgio Girardi rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
