Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Arvydas Sabonis!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Stone!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sabonis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stone somewhat.
Stone avoids the body shot from Sabonis.
Sabonis connects with the punch.


It looks like Sean Stone has been cut.
Stone throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sabonis throws a nice inside leg kick.
A shot to the body from Sabonis misses
and Stone counters with a solid body kick.

Stone dives in and scores a takedown into Sabonis's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Sabonis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stone defends it easily.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Stone drops back looking for a leg! Sabonis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sabonis manages to kick Stone off! Stone jumps back into Sabonis's guard.

Sabonis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Stone defends well.

Sabonis avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Sabonis trying to control the position.
Stone throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sabonis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Sabonis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stone doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stone manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sabonis controls Stone momentarily but Stone frees himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stone slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Sabonis keeping moving, preventing Stone from controlling successfully.

Stone avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stone not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Stone has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Sabonis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sean Stone has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Stone takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sabonis throws a low kick but Stone moves out of range easily.

Stone misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Stone is looking to slow Sabonis down with leg kicks.
Sabonis looks to land a right hand but Stone moved out of range.
Sabonis jabs at Stone's body.
Stone throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sabonis tried to score with a low kick but Stone checks it.
Stone misses with the body kick
and Sabonis counters with a nice low kick that buckles Stone's knee momentarily.
Sabonis motions for Stone to come forward. Sabonis throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Sabonis takes one on the button.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sabonis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Stone was well out of range. Poor timing from Sabonis.
Sabonis checks a leg kick.
Stone goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Sabonis misses with a wild body shot.
Stone takes a kick to the side of the head.
Sabonis throws a front kick aimed at Stone's knee but Stone avoids it well.
Stone throws the left hand but Sabonis avoids the punch easily.
Stone avoids the head kick by Sabonis.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sabonis scores with a push kick.
Stone takes a jab right on the kisser.
A jab from Stone misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arvydas Sabonis dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Sean Stone's cut.

Stone misses with a leg kick
and Sabonis counters with a right hand to the body.
Stone will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A jab from Stone misses.
Sabonis ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Stone is looking to slow Sabonis down with leg kicks.
Sabonis connects with a leg kick. Stone looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Sabonis misses with a low kick.
Sabonis throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Stone is looking to chop away at Sabonis's legs.
Sabonis smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sabonis throws a head kick that misses.

Stone darts in looking for a takedown but Sabonis gets double underhooks and turns Stone into the cage.
Stone has a couple of punches blocked by Sabonis.
Sabonis is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Stone prevents Sabonis from breaking the clinch.
I was talking to Sabonis's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Stone.

Stone turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Sabonis tries to improve position but can't.
Sabonis is trying to control Stone's posture but Stone avoids it.
Stone scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sabonis to see if he's OK.
Stone is looking to take a break and control but Sabonis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Stone is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Stone has control of an arm but Sabonis manages to advance to Stone's back!

Sabonis not allowing Stone to control his hands.
Sabonis controlling well, preventing Stone from escaping the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stone keeps trying to improve his position.
Sabonis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Stone breaks Sabonis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Stone won't allow Sabonis to get back to his feet.
Stone is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Sabonis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stone lands a couple of digs.
Sabonis trying to keep a closed guard but Stone is proving a slippery customer.

Sabonis pushes a forearm under Stone's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Stone is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
