PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Strong Omar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Weaves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Strong Omar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Weaves!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weaves misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Weaves throws a left and a right that both miss

and Omar holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Omar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Weaves misses with a few strikes there.
Omar scores with a head kick.
Omar avoids a punch combination nicely.
Omar could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Omar shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Weaves is trying to defend but Omar finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Omar seems to be working for a kimura but Weaves defends the submission attempt.
Omar uses his free foot to push down on Weaves's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Weaves.

Omar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Weaves looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Omar has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Weaves rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Omar moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Weaves throws a right and a left that both miss.
Weaves lands a nice shot that snaps Omar's head back.
Weaves throws a nice looking combination but Omar bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Omar looks to land a body kick but Weaves moved away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Weaves fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Omar manages to avoid it.

Omar shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Weaves's guard.
Omar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Omar stands up over Weaves, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Omar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Strong Omar.
Weaves ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Omar moves away.
Omar throws a quick inside leg kick.
Some wild striking there from Weaves.
Omar goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Omar scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Weaves will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Weaves gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Omar to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Weaves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Omar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Weaves can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Omar controls the pace.

Weaves is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Omar rather than just go for the knockout.

Bob Weaves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Omar stands and steps away. Weaves gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Strong Omar showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Omar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
