PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between marcus marz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, marcus marz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Bob!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice combination there by marz.


It looks like Joe Bob has been cut.
marz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

marz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
marz tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Bob.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bob works his way to full guard. Good work.
marz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bob seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

marz has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bob is proving hard to escape from.
Bob controls marz momentarily but marz frees himself.
marz sitting in guard, not really doing much.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

and marz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bob won't be happy with that.

marz decides to stand back up.

marz gets a takedown into half guard.
Bob tries to roll over but marz keeps him under control.
marz is breathing heavily.

Bob has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. marz is working away from the top position though.

marz is trying to work for a kimura but Bob is defending well.
Bob trying to hold on to marz's head to control him but marz postures up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
marz tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Bob.

Bob moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Bob manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
marz is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
marz flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Bob with a couple of short strikes.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bob sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Bob with the ground and pound from mount.
Bob can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as marz is looking to escape.
marz wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

marcus marz dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Joe Bob's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


marz takes a jab right on the kisser.


It looks like marcus marz has been cut.
Bob shoots for a double leg takedown but marz sprawls well. He's pushed Bob's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

marz gets the takedown into side control.
Bob struggling a bit here.
Bob manages to work his way to half guard, despite marz's best efforts.

marz seems to be looking for submissions.
Bob is looking to control marz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bob avoid being mounted?
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

marz misses with a head shot. Bob uses the momentum to regain guard.
Bob throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
marz is looking to stand up but Bob won't let him.
Bob striking off his back but it's not causing marz any problems.
marz wants to control from the top but Bob keeps moving.
Bob is trying to control the position but marz postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bob scores with the left hand. marz knows he should have avoided that one.
Bob throws a nice looking combination but marz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Bob shoots and misses

and marz counters by moving into the clinch.

marz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
marz is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bob throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around marz's waist but marz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bob off to one side.
marcus marz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Bob.
Bob has a takedown stuffed.
No luck for marz with that takedown attempt.
marz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Bob connects with a body shot.

Bob gets the takedown into side control.

marz is trying to control Bob's posture but Bob avoids it.

marz throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
marz tries for a takedown but Bob circles away easily
and Bob counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

marz passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Bob tries to roll over but marz keeps him under control.

marz slows the pace down in half guard.
marz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bob does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
marz is looking to advance position but Bob won't allow it.
marz is looking to take a break and control but Bob is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Joe Bob will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

marcus marz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bob fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bob shoots and misses
and marz counters with a one-two to the body.
A left and a right from marz both land. Nice combination.

marz shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. marz showed some decent athleticism there.
marz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
marz is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bob has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. marz is working away from the top position though.
Bob is in trouble now - marz has advanced to mount!
marz tries to control but Bob wriggling away.

marz working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Bob regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
marz is thwarting Bob's attempts to control the position.
Bob is trying to get back to full guard.
Bob has hold of marz's hands but marz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Bob trying to hold on to marz's head to control him but marz postures up.
marz wants to take a breather but Bob is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

marz decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
marcus marz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

marz gets a takedown into half guard.
marz controlling the pace.
marz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bob knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
marz blocks the strikes from Bob.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bob is trying to control but can't.

marz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bob defends it well.
marz wants to pass to mount but Bob is defending the position.
marz lands strikes from half guard.
marz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

And that's the end of the fight!
marcus marz showed his dominance in that final round.
Well marz has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
