Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
9 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Cody Lundin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Merk Roop!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Bruno Lombardi and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lundin fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Roop.
Roop with a poor takedown
and Lundin makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Roop closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Lundin did well to prevent Roop getting side control.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Roop working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Roop accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Roop postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lundin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Roop, into his guard.

Lundin is fighting to break Roop's control of his arms but Roop is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Roop throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's time! Lundin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Roop shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lundin as he jumps to the side.

Roop looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Lundin throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Cody Lundin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lundin scores with a head kick. Roop tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

and Lundin counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Lundin gets a clinch.

The crowd are getting on Roop's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.

Roop swings wildly with an uppercut but Lundin uses good head movement to avoid it.

Lundin digs a right hand into Roop's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Roop's gas tank.
Lundin is looking to control Roop's arms but Roop gets an underhook and turns him. Now Lundin has his back to the cage.

Roop gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Lundin regains guard.
Lundin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Roop drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lundin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lundin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lundin!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Roop has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Lundin celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
