Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hakbar Shamuli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Zane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Zane will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hakbar Shamuli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Zane!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamuli fails to land the takedown.
Zane throws a shot to the body.

Shamuli throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Zane was covering up waiting for the punch and Shamuli finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Shamuli is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Zane told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Shamuli's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Hakbar Shamuli just wasn't active enough.

Shamuli shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Zane wants to sweep but no luck.
Shamuli is fighting to break Zane's control of his arms but Zane is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Zane is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Shamuli has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Hakbar Shamuli has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Shamuli shoots for a double leg takedown but Zane sprawls well. He's pushed Shamuli's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Zane lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Shamuli backs up against the ropes.

Shamuli tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zane swivels and escapes.

A head kick from Zane lands but Shamuli takes it in his stride.

Shamuli changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Zane tries to avoid it but Shamuli manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Zane to the ground. Zane escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Shamuli seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zane for as long as he can get away with.
Zane keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shamuli tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Shamuli shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shamuli was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Zane is letting Shamuli control him for a moment.
The ground and pound from Shamuli seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Shamuli works to advance to full mount. Zane defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Zane's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Hakbar Shamuli overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Shamuli fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Zane feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Shamuli's calf.
Shamuli shoots in for a takedown but Zane shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Shamuli shoots in and drives through. Zane sprawls well.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Shamuli here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Zane is trying to escape the position but Shamuli is controlling the position.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shamuli fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Shamuli shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Shamuli showed some decent athleticism there.

Zane tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shamuli swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Shamuli uses his free foot to push down on Zane's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Zane.

Zane takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

We've been told by Shamuli's head coaches at Cozad MMA Tokyo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Zane enables Shamuli to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Zane manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shamuli, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
