The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scalante throws a left and a right that both miss
and Souza counters with a slapping leg kick.
Rocky Scalante seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scalante looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Scalante misses with a series of wild punches.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Scalante has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Souza tries to clinch up but Scalante circles away and keeps his distance.
Souza steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Scalante. That one must have hurt.
Scalante keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Souza can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Scalante controls the pace.
