Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juul Hupperts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Luff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Juul Hupperts has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juul Hupperts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brandon Luff!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hupperts misses with a takedown

and Luff decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hupperts's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hupperts wants to sweep but no luck.
Luff pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hupperts is keeping the position for now.
Luff makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Luff in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Luff postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Hupperts keeping moving, preventing Luff from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hupperts is on top in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hupperts trying to control but Luff is working from the bottom.

Hupperts wants to control from the top but Luff keeps moving.
Hupperts stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Luff swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hupperts throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Luff works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hupperts trying to control the position from guard on top but Luff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hupperts throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hupperts's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Luff can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hupperts wants to control from the top but Luff keeps moving.

We're going to have a standup here because Juul Hupperts wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Luff throws a leg kick but Hupperts checks it.
Hupperts shoots and misses

and Luff counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Luff.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hupperts manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Luff manages to get himself to full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Luff has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Irish Collar-and-Elbow Academy. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Hupperts has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hupperts tries to free his leg and advance position but Luff is retaining full guard.

Hupperts drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Luff manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hupperts has Luff in his guard.
Hupperts wants to sweep here but Luff controlling him for the moment.
Hupperts is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hupperts is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hupperts seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Luff does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hupperts is looking for a kimura but Luff is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hupperts to get the leverage.
Hupperts thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hupperts throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Luff tries to get to full guard but Hupperts has control of the leg.

Hupperts is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Luff has managed to free his arm - good work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hupperts with the ground and pound but Luff uses the opportunity to regain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Juul Hupperts will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Luff misses with a low kick.
Hupperts on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Hupperts gets caught napping as Luff dives in and scores a takedown. Hupperts manages to retain guard.
Luff postures up in Hupperts's guard and throws a big left but Hupperts blocks it.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Juul Hupperts just wasn't active enough.

and Luff counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Hupperts!

The referee asks Luff politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Luff prefers to stall for the moment though.

Luff really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hupperts. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hupperts makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hupperts.
Luff scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Luff stands and throws Hupperts's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Luff tries to move into full mount but can't pass Hupperts's legs.
Hupperts is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Hupperts is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Luff looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hupperts with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Luff wants to pass to mount but Hupperts is defending the position.
Luff is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Hupperts!
Luff with shots to the head and body - Hupperts looks very uncomfortable down there.

Luff lands a big shot there that rocks Hupperts but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Luff is in the full mount, landing strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Luff can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hupperts is looking to escape.
Hupperts can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Luff showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Luff working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Brandon Luff.
Well Luff has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
