PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nicholas Weichel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dakota Parsons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Nicholas Weichel has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nicholas Weichel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dakota Parsons!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Weichel with a poor takedown

and Parsons counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Parsons in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Weichel is trying to hold Parsons in close to prevent damage but Parsons has managed to pass into half guard.

Parsons stalling.
Weichel regains full guard. Nicely done.
Parsons is looking to work some ground and pound but Weichel has wrist control.
Parsons looking to sit in guard and control but Weichel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Parsons tries to strike from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Weichel prevents Parsons from getting back to his feet.
Parsons tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Parsons is still trying to improve position.

Parsons is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Parsons looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Parsons working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Weichel.
Weichel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Parsons throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Weichel stands up over Parsons, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Weichel won't allow Parsons to sweep him here.

Parsons looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Weichel has picked Parsons up and slammed him! Parsons can't keep hold of the triangle and Weichel manages to pass to side control!
Parsons really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Weichel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Weichel working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Parsons tries to bench press Weichel off him but Weichel keeps the position.
Weichel sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Parsons is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Weichel wants to control but Parsons is keeping him busy.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Parsons gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Weichel is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Parsons to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Parsons shrugs it off.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Weichel cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Weichel throws some wild stikes that Parsons manages to avoid easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Weichel thowing shots but they're missing.

Weichel looking for a guillotine from mount but Parsons is having none of it.
Parsons tries to hold on but Weichel pushes him away.
Parsons tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Parsons can do anything to dispel that myth.
Weichel is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Parsons can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Weichel working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Parsons turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Weichel off and cradles Parsons's limp body as Weichel celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Nicholas Weichel!
