Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sam Ponjev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Edward Teach!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Teach avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ponjev clobbers Teach with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Ponjev throws a lazy right hand but Teach sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ponjev takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Teach shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ponjev napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ponjev has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ponjev is looking to regain half guard here but Teach keeps moving and retains side control.
Ponjev is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Ponjev is trying to improve his position.
Teach working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Teach throws a strike aimed at the side of Ponjev's head but Ponjev avoids it well.
Teach trying to control the position but Ponjev is working away.

Teach goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Ponjev rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Teach's guard! Nice work there by Ponjev!
Teach has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ponjev wants to control from the top but Teach keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Teach manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Ponjev can't escape the position.
Teach tries to control but Ponjev wriggling away.
Teach prevents Ponjev from getting the reversal.
Teach working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Teach pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ponjev trying desperately to get to his feet.
Teach lands with some strikes.


Ponjev is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Teach misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Teach misses with a head shot.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Teach! Ponjev is hurt baaadly! Teach is firing away with more strikes - Ponjev is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Edward Teach!
